In a bid to revamp the Bayelsa Palm Limited, Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd), paid an unscheduled visit to the Company for an on-the-spot assessment.
During the visit, he noted that with appropriate encouragement and determination, Bayelsa Palm Limited, can be turned around and operate profitably like other Oil Palm companies in the country and also offer employment to some of our teeming unemployed youths in the state.
He, therefore, directed the Commissioner of Agriculture Dr Thomas Commander to visit the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research in Edo State to explore the possibility of fully installing the oil mill, a key component of the operations of the company which the Institute was contracted to install a few years back.
Some of the units inspected by the deputy governor include the Sterilization Unit, currently in operation, storage tanks and the boiler.
It would be recalled that the State Government recently constituted a Committee to critically assess the state of affairs at the Bayelsa Palm and the Committee submitted its report last week.
Top Government functionaries that accompanied the deputy governor on the unscheduled visit were, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Edmond Allison-Oguru, Commissioner of Agriculture, Dr Thomas Commander and Special Adviser on Agricultural Development, Mr Izonebi Odubo while Mr Pagaranyo Oguara, Director, Finance and Administration, Bayelsa Palm, conducted the team round the company during the visit.
