GOV DICKSON TO POLITICAL OFFICE SEEKERS; SEE POLITICS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO RENDER SELFLESS SERVICE, NOT A DO OR DIE AFFAIR

03/11/2014.
Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson on Sunday renewed his call on political office seekers not to see politics as a do or die affair, but as an opportunity to render selfless service to humanity.

He made the appeal, while speaking at the 3rd Bayelsa annual Thanksgiving Day Service at the Dr. Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa.

According to him, “service to mankind has always been the restoration government’s guiding principle as, he who, serveth man well, serveth God well.

Governor Dickson, who stressed the need to sustain the existing peace and unity among the people of the state, attributed his administration’s remarkable achievements within the short period to the stability and harmonious working relationship, among the three arms of government.

His words: “The thanksgiving is not just for the state, but it is a day for you all to thank God for His mercies and blessings upon each and every one of us in our communities; local governments, our state and our nation at large. It is also an opportunity for you all to remember us in leadership positions in prayers for peace, stability and prosperity.

He pointed out that, the Thanksgiving Day celebration was not for the state alone, but also for all Bayelsans wherever they may be, to show gratitude to God for His manifold blessings upon the state.

He urged the people to pray ceaselessly for the peace and progress of the state and country, noting that President Goodluck Jonathan, being a son of the soil, need their prayers and support more than ever before to enable him succeed.

Governor Dickson read the only lesson at the service, which was taken from the Book of Joshua, chapter 24: verse 14 to 25.

In his sermon, the General Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi recounted the benefits of giving gratitude to God, which he said, include exalting and emulating Christ for spiritual empowerment.

Quoting the scriptures from the book of Exodus, Chapter 15, Ephesians chapter 5 and Psalms 150, Pastor Kumuyi emphasized the significance of thanksgiving to God at all times, regardless of the situation one finds himself, rather than complain unnecessarily.
