Bayelsa Gov race: Let’s unite, join forces with Dickson – Okorotie …..endorses Dickson’s re-election

One of the founding fathers of Bayelsa State, Chief Thompson Okorotie, has called on all Bayelsans and the entire Ijaw nation to join forces with Governor Seriake Dickson to regain political relevance at the federal level.

According to him, Dickson deserves a second term based on his performance in office.

He spoke with journalists in Yenagoa ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State, shortly after a marathon meeting with leaders and members of a socio-cultural group, the Bayelsa Development Forum, which is at the vanguard of emancipation and economic development of the the Niger-Delta region.

Okorotie, who reviewed political developments in the state in recent times and the implications for the future, said the choice before Bayelsans and the entire Niger Delta region would have to be one that would ensure the protection of their common interests now and in the future.

This, he said, must also be founded on demonstrated actions in the past and now, by those who are angling for leadership positions.

“Having lost power at the centre, we have to come together and be unified for a common purpose that can realistically help us to reposition Bayelsa State and the Niger delta for greater political relevance. It is imperative for all Bayesians and the entire Niger Delta region to remain committed in our support for Dickson’s Restoration Government. We have seen what he has done and his resolve towards the key interest of the Ijaw nation, which no one can wish away”, Okorotie stated.

He, therefore, cautioned the people against politics of greed and self-centeredness which, he said, were the bane of underdevelopment, adding that, true development can only be made possible when public spirited leaders were at the helm of affairs.

This, he said, should be the concern of the people rather than cultivating cut-throat politics or the tendency to blackmail those in government.

While endorsing the incumbent Governor, Seriake Dickson, for a second term, which he said was based on his performance in office, he advised the people of the state to disregard attempts by those he referred to as “desperate politicians” to run down his administration, saying the governor’s record in infrastructure, education, health, urban renewal, economic diversification and general restructuring of the government to deliver on the welfare of the people were clear indications that he meant well for the state.

The former legislator in the old Rivers State, said that, such antics by those opposed to the governor were only devised to advance their own political ambition, adding that, those involved were not credible alternatives as their antecedents did not justify the prostituting for political leadership.

He criticised in particular, those behind a recent statement credited to some Bayelsa Elders, which claimed that, the people did not get what they deserved from the PDP both at the federal and state levels and were in support of change.

He said such claims were unrealistic, adding that the level of delivery of democracy dividends by Dickson’s administration in the last couple of years was unprecedented in the political history of Bayelsa state.

ALAMIEYESEIGHA DENIES GOVERNORSHIP BID; BLAME MISCHIEF MAKERS…. CALL ON IJAW NATION TO CLOSE RANKS

08/05/2015.

Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha has described as complete fallacy and an act of mischief, media reports that, he is planning to run for the governorship of Bayelsa State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In a statement, Chief Alamieyeseigha, explained that, he has neither nursed nor discussed any plans to run for the Governorship of Bayelsa State with anybody and called on his teeming supporters and the people of the State to disregard the reports, as they were the handiwork of mischief makers.

According to him, he remains a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and has no intention to abandon the party, let alone running for an office under the platform of another party, stressing that, he will rather support and contribute to ongoing efforts at rebuilding and repositioning the PDP.

Chief Alamieyeseigha, who used the opportunity to reaffirm his total support for the restoration administration of Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the PDP controlled Government in the State and called on all right meaning Bayelsans to rally round the second term bid of the Governor.

While reassuring Governor Dickson of his support, especially his second tenure bid, he called on Bayelsans to be focused and not allow themselves to be deceived by persons, who do not mean well for them.

“Having served my people as Governor about ten years ago; I don’t have any intention to go back to Government House, after all I did not forget anything in Government House and nobody should draw me into such games” he stated.

The man, who is fondly called the ‘Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation’ also called on Bayelsans and the entire Ijaw Nation to close ranks, as this is not a time for the people to be divided for whatever reason, but work in one accord to reposition itself for greater political relevance.

Jonathan’s defeat: There’s conspiracy against Ijaws, says Diaspora Group

…warns against pulling down Ijaw leaders

The Ijaw professionals in the diaspora, a socio-cultural group dedicated to the preservation of the Ijaw interest worldwide, has cried out against what it calls a conspiracy to destroy the Ijaw course, through the pulling down of its leaders, following the loss of the Presidency by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

The Group rose from an extraordinary congress in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States, last week with a resolve to sensitize Ijaw people of this deadly plot by her enemies, to be carried out, by using fellow Ijaws as was done to the President.

In a statement read out to the Press by its General Secretary, Mr. Akpoebi Okrowanta, the group lamented that, the loss of the Presidency was avoidable, if the President was not betrayed by some of his fellow Ijaws he trusted, warning that, such political miscalculations could repeat themselves, if they were not careful.

The Ijaws must void making similar mistakes by not pulling down its leaders, who can fill the big leadership vacuum existing today.

The group was particularly, concerned about attempts to destroy the stability of the only homogeneous jaw state for narrow political reasons, adding that, any attempt to disregard the larger interest of Ijaw Nation in the new dispensation will quickly erase the giant strides already recorded by the Ijaw race, especially in Bayelsa State.

To this end the group appeals to politicians to always consider what their actions will do to the overall wellbeing of the Ijaw cause and subordinate their narrow political interests to it.

The group is taking other steps to implement its resolutions to prevail on Ijaw leaders to work in synergy with others and to punish offenders by exposing publicly their divisive activities.

It has set up a five-person committee to independently investigate allegations against prominent Ijaw leaders and draw up a code of conduct for all its leaders.

The group believes that, the Ijaw race must not have a leadership vacuum at a critical moment like this and believes that the legacy of the outgoing President, should strengthen Ijaw cause as well as strengthen and empower up and coming leaders, such as Governor Dickson to play a more nationalistic role and to mitigate the collapse of the Ijaw cause.

It is to this end that, it frowns at the latest attempt by some detractors to tarnish his image, so as to make it impossible for the Ijaw race to continue in its upward progress, despite the loss of the presidency.

Already the group has investigated and found to be untrue, the latest attempts to destroy the unblemished record of performance of the leader of the only purely homogeneous Ijaw State to the mud by linking him to a spuriuos claim of misappropriation of funds with what it claimed as a First Bank Chairman, as being distributed in the social media.

We confirmed with the EFCC, that no such complaints have been received contrary to claims that the EFCC was handling the case.

With a fake website, the sponsors, who are strangely prominent Ijaw sons did not consider what the big picture of their action would be, but only concentrating on the immediately perceived political advantage.

This is just one of the many cases we have investigated and if those concerned does not stop this self destruction, we shall publish their names for the world to see.

Once again we appeal to all well meaning Ijaw people to prevail on the larger Ijaw community to work for their collective stability and progress as a way to ending the unfavourable tide that the enemy has woven for our people.
